The M1128 Mobile Gun System is an eight-wheeled armored car from the Stryker armored fighting vehicle family, based on the Canadian LAV III light-armored vehicle produced by General Dynamics Canada.. It mounts a 105 mm tank gun. Following the end in the Cold War some theorists considered that the existing suite of U.S. armored vehicles, designed largely to combat Soviet mechanized forces in Europe, were not suitable towards the lower-intensity missions U.S. military could be given the job of later in engagements in Afghanistan and Iraq. This triggered the creation of a new armored fighting vehicle designed for lower-intensity combat, as opposed to large-scale engagements.

In late 2013, the U.S. Army began seeking to reintroduce an air-drop mobile airborne protected firepower platform to provide fire support for air assault forces, a capability which had been absent because the retirement from the M551 Sheridan in 1997. General Dynamics initially considered modifying the wheeled Stryker MGS to meet the requirement, though the company instead developed the tracked Griffin light tank technology demonstrator becasue it is offering for your Mobile Protected Firepower (MPF) platform, which has been travelling to October 2016.
